Professionals from the hospitality sector, the beverage and food business, and restaurant and food writing from across Finland are invited to vote. With this new system, Järvisydän can monitor water quality in real time, every moment of the day. The 6th Sense technology generates an electrochemical “fingerprint” of the water every minute. Artificial intelligence automatically analyses these fingerprints, performing 1,440 water quality analyses per day, enabling continuous monitoring at a level previously unavailable on the market.

“We also want to ensure, with this new Finnish technology, that the water in Järvisydän’s spa is always clean and safe for our guests,” says Markus Heiskanen, CEO of Järvisydän.

Liqum enables real-time monitoring of water quality, providing a concrete and continuous overview of the spa’s water conditions. “We receive a real-time report on the water and its changes more than 1,400 times a day — it’s like a fingerprint of the water,” Heiskanen explains.

LIQUM’s sensors are also used to monitor the water quality of Lake Saimaa.

“We want to ensure with this new Finnish technology that the water in Järvisydän’s spa is always clean and safe for our customers. At the same time, we aim to set an example of responsible water management and environmental protection,” says Heiskanen.

Järvisydän is also an active advocate for the protection of Lake Saimaa and the Saimaa ringed seal. The same LIQUM 6th Sense technology is used on Järvisydän’s Norppa Cruise vessel, which scans the water quality of Haukivesi between Järvisydän and Linnansaari every day during the open-water season.

The goal is to expand cooperation with Liqum and develop a broader water quality monitoring network for Lake Saimaa over the coming year — one that would eventually cover the entire lake system. The proven systems could, in the future, become part of the new Arctic Cruises network, enabling near-comprehensive monitoring of water quality across Lake Saimaa.

Järvisydän is committed to responsible operations and is continuously developing new, concrete solutions to promote environmental protection. While Lapland has already implemented air quality sensors as part of tourism development, a comparable water quality monitoring system has not previously been utilized within the tourism industry.

Järvisydän will play a central role in the development and advancement of sustainable water management and the protection of Lake Saimaa.

“The wellbeing of Lake Saimaa is crucial for the future of the entire region. New technological solutions help us take tangible actions to protect nature,” Heiskanen explains.

Lake Saimaa is the largest continuous lake district in Europe and one of the most valuable freshwater ecosystems in the world.

“It is the lifeblood of the entire region — a source of clean water, a cradle of biodiversity, and the heart of sustainable tourism,” says Heiskanen. “Saimaa’s clear waters are home to several endangered and unique species, such as the Saimaa ringed seal, the world’s only freshwater seal, as well as the genetically distinct Saimaa salmon and Saimaa char. The future of these species depends on how well we succeed in protecting the water — the very element that sustains both them and us all.”

SPA GUIDELINES

To help us keep the spa facilities and water clean, we kindly ask our guests to follow these rules:

• If you are staying overnight, please bring a towel from your room. Day visitors will receive a towel at the spa.

• Wash thoroughly before entering the pools, and always after using the sauna or outdoor pools.

• Keep long hair tied up or wear a swim cap.

• Outdoor shoes/sandals are not permitted in the spa area.

• Swimming in the lake and staying on the lawn is not allowed during your spa visit. At the outdoor pools, you can enjoy swimming in lake water.

Of the three required water samples, two have already been completed, and no legionella has been detected in the spa water. In order to receive permission from the health authorities to reopen the spa, we are still awaiting the results of the third sample, which will be ready by next Monday at the latest.

Spa maintenance progressing – aiming for the cleanest pool water in Finland

The maintenance and disinfection work at Järvisydän’s spa is progressing as planned. The first water samples have been taken, and our goal is ambitious – we aim to offer our guests the cleanest spa water in Finland.

In addition to cleaning and chlorination, we have consulted several pool water experts to ensure long-term excellence in water quality. Our goal is for every spa visit to be a safe and pleasant experience for our guests.

As part of the maintenance, new water sensors are being installed in the spa by Liqum Oy. These sensors will allow us to monitor the quality of incoming water, pool water, and lake water in real time. This data will be shared publicly online alongside official test results for full transparency.

We are also introducing a new automated water circulation and refresh system to prevent water from stagnating in the pipelines during overnight closures. This system will help prevent bacterial growth and ensure consistently high water quality.

Additionally, we are currently exploring the option of ozone treatment for incoming water to further reduce potential impurities entering the spa.

Spa cleaning is handled by SOL Cleaning Services. In collaboration with their experts, we have adopted new tools and techniques to ensure even more effective cleaning.

Since the spa also has a connection to the lake, we are developing clearer hygiene guidelines for guests when moving between the pool and natural water. Legionella bacteria occurs naturally in soil and natural waters, so proper rinsing and hygiene are essential when transitioning between these environments.

Please note that sample collection is delayed over weekends, as official testing cannot be performed then. Therefore, the new projected reopening date is 26 August 2025. Until then, we will continue working diligently toward our goal of becoming Finland’s cleanest spa.
