Nature Resort Järvisydän Closed April 2027 During Annual Resort Renewal

Nature Resort Järvisydän & Kuru Resort will be closed throughout April 2027 for its annual development and maintenance period, Annual Resort Renewal.

During this period, we maintain our facilities, develop our services, and invest in staff training to ensure we continue providing an exceptional guest experience.

The Annual Resort Renewal enables us to carry out maintenance, servicing, and development work that cannot be completed while guests are staying at the resort. It ensures a high-quality, safe, and memorable experience throughout the year. By dedicating this time annually to improvements, we can continue offering our guests Finland’s finest spa hotel experience.

During the Renewal period, we will carry out, among other things:

Annual maintenance of the Lake Spa, including inspections of pool and sauna systems
Refurbishment and maintenance of accommodation, restaurants, and public areas
Preventive maintenance of buildings, technical systems, and safety equipment
Spring maintenance of outdoor areas, nature trails, docks, and the surrounding environment
Sustainability and energy-efficiency improvements in accordance with the principles of the Green Key environmental certification
Staff training, safety exercises, and the development of service concepts for the upcoming seasons

Looking Ahead
Throughout April, we will prepare the resort and its surroundings to welcome both domestic and international guests in the best possible condition for the upcoming summer, autumn, and winter seasons.

FAQ
1. Can I book a holiday for April 2027?
Nature Resort Järvisydän will be closed from 1–30 April 2027 during the Annual Resort Renewal. We will welcome guests back from May 2027 onwards.

2. Is this a one-time closure?
No. The Annual Resort Renewal is an annual operating model designed to ensure the long-term quality, safety, and continuous development of our resort and services.

3. Can I visit the restaurants or the spa during April?
Unfortunately not. The Annual Resort Renewal applies to the entire Nature Resort Järvisydän property. All services – including accommodation, restaurants, and the Lake Spa – will be closed throughout April.

4. My gift card expires in April. Can it be extended until May?
Yes. Please contact our customer service at jarvisydan@jarvisydan.fi to request an extension. Be sure to include your gift card number in your message.

5. Why is the entire resort closed for April?
Closing the resort allows us to carry out extensive maintenance, refurbishment, and development projects – including the annual servicing of the Lake Spa, preventive maintenance of our buildings and technical systems, and comprehensive staff training – safely and efficiently without affecting our guests’ holiday experience. This is not a single renovation project, but a comprehensive annual renewal programme covering the entire resort.

Notice to Hotel Guests and Visitors – Traffic Arrangements on Saturday, July 11, 2026

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the Finntriathlon 2026 event will take place in the area. As a result, the road between Hotel & Spa Järvisydän and Varkaus will be temporarily closed from approximately 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the cycling race. The closed section is part of the cycling course between Tahkoranta Interchange (Exit 43) and Tiemassaari village, returning to Tahkoranta Interchange (Exit 43). See map.

Traffic heading north towards Varkaus will be redirected via Rantasalmi, continuing through Joroinen back to Highway 5. The detour is approximately 21 km (13 miles) long, fully paved, and clearly signposted from the centre of Rantasalmi.

If you are travelling south from Porosalmi, the Finntriathlon event will not affect your journey. Traffic towards the south will operate as normal. This means the arrangement will not affect the traffic from Savonlinna, Mikkel

Restaurant Solitary has once again received major recognition, having been voted the 9th best restaurant in Finland. The year before last, Solitary was ranked 30th, while last year Solitary was also voted the 9th best restaurant.

Finland’s 50 best restaurants are listed annually based on a vote by industry professionals. The vote is organized by Viisi Tähteä, an online media outlet. Professionals from the hospitality sector, the beverage and food business, and restaurant and food writing from across Finland are invited to vote. Approximately 70% of voters are restaurant industry professionals.

SOLITARY

Led by Remi Trémouille, the restaurant offers dinner experiences built around locally sourced ingredients, set in the enchanting nature of Lake Saimaa—secluded from the rush and bustle of the outside world. Two set menu options are available: 3 and 5 courses, as well as an à la carte menu. À la carte dishes and prices vary depending on the season and availability.

Winter dens for Saimaa Ringed Seals

Järvisydän’s team rolled up their sleeves for the Saimaa ringed seal and took part in Metsähallitus’ nest-building volunteer work again this year. By supporting den building, we help give the seals better chances to survive and reproduce during winter. Our location next to a national park obliges us to take nature into account in everything we do. You can find more information about Järvisydän’s sustainability actions here.

Why are winter dens made for the seals?

The Saimaa ringed seal is completely dependent on ice and snow during winter. Linnansaari National Park is at the heart of the seals’ habitat, and an estimated 80 seals live in the area. The seal gives birth to and nurses its pup in a den dug into snowdrifts that have formed on top of the ice. The den shelters the pup from cold, wind and predators - and above all provides peace and quiet during the first weeks of life.

In recent years, winters have often been low-snow and unpredictable. When there is too little snow, it becomes difficult for the seal to build a proper den. The pup is then more easily exposed to frost and disturbance, and the mother’s ability to care for her pup in peace is also reduced.

That is why, in some parts of the seals’ habitat, volunteers create artificial snowdrifts: snow is shoveled into suitable locations so the seal has enough material to dig a den. The work may look simple - just moving snow - but its impact can be significant, because the den is the foundation of the seal’s winter breeding, and as many as 70% of seals are born in these den sites.

It is also important to remember that seals reminded seals are sensitive to disturbance, especially during the breeding season. Winter movement on the ice, dogs, snowmobiles and excursions that come too close can cause a mother to avoid the area. For that reason, we move carefully in den areas and follow guidelines: we give the seals space and help ensure undisturbed breeding.

The spa will be closed for maintenance on January 26
and will reopen on January 27 at 4:00 PM.

The forest saunas and the electric saunas in the sauna world will be
heated and available for guests on January 26 4:00PM – 9:00PM.
Please bring a towel from your accommodation.

After the maintenance break, the renovation of the women’s shower facilities will
continue for approximately three weeks. During this period, the women’s showers
will be located in the stone sauna and infrared sauna area, which will be reserved
exclusively for women and separated from other areas to ensure privacy.
These saunas will not be available for men during the renovation.
