Challenges as a Driving Force for Renewal
Like tourism across Eastern Finland, Järvisydän has faced challenging times in recent years. These have stemmed from structural changes in visitor numbers, cost pressures caused by the global situation, and external market disruptions.
In addition, Järvisydän has faced other challenges, three of which have received extensive media attention:
1. Elevated Legionella bacteria levels in the spa
In 2025, a finding of Legionella bacteria was detected in the spa’s water pipeline network. Järvisydän carried out extensive cleaning and disinfection measures and invested in new Finnish technology as well as a real-time 24/7 monitoring system to ensure water purity and guest safety. After the maintenance and renewal work was completed, health authorities confirmed that the water is clean and that the spa is a safe to use.
A significant factor behind the finding is the revised Drinking Water Decree, under which new legislation requires more frequent and more precise Legionella testing than before. As a result, the bacteria is now being detected more often in the water systems of various properties.
2. Bankruptcy petitions
There has been public reporting on bankruptcy petitions filed against Järvisydän, which have resulted from individual disputed payments or matters related to the real estate company.
The company addressed these situations promptly by settling the outstanding amounts and reaching agreements with the relevant parties, leading to the immediate withdrawal of the petitions. All customer reservations have remained valid without interruption. A controlled structural reorganization ensures the stability of operations going forward.
3. Treatment of migrant workers and partner responsibility
Public discussion has addressed the operations of an external cleaning service partner and the treatment of its foreign employees, which also brought attention to Järvisydän’s client relationship with the service provider in question.
Although Järvisydän was not a legal party to the case nor a direct subject of the allegations, the company has taken the matter seriously and acknowledged its reputational responsibility for the ethical standards of its service chain. In response, Järvisydän has strengthened oversight of subcontractors and will in the future centralize procurement to a limited number of carefully selected partners, ensuring that everyone working on the site is treated in accordance with the company’s values.

Structural reorganization creates a foundation for development.
Järvisydän’s operations continue without interruption, and the reorganization is not visible to guests in any way. All existing reservations remain valid, and all services operate as normal.
The purpose of the controlled structural reorganization is to secure business continuity and enable the development of a new Nature-base concept. This change is a strategic choice through which we further elevate the quality of our services and the overall guest experience.

Our aim is to offer more refined and meaningful travel packages throughout the year–while guests will of course continue to enjoy our unique lakeside spa as well.
