HEARTFELT HOSPITALITY SINCE 1658

Tourism in Porosalmi dates back to 1658, when the Russian Tsar and the King of Sweden agreed to establish a network of roads through Finland as part of the routes leading to Karelia. Along these roads, inns were established at intervals of approximately 30 kilometres – the distance horses could comfortably travel between stops. These inns served as taverns, places to change and rest horses, and even as postal stations of their time.

Around the same period, the head of the Heiskanen family was granted a 600-hectare peninsula in Porosalmi in recognition of distinguished military service. In return for the land, the family was entrusted with establishing and maintaining an inn for travellers.

Today, Markus Heiskanen, together with his family, continues this centuries-old tradition as the 11th generation of the Heiskanen family to welcome travellers in Porosalmi.

We warmly invite you, our dear guests, to experience the flavours of the region at Restaurant Piikatyttö, discover Savonia’s largest Wine Cellar or enjoy a drink at Lotjabaari. Unwind at our Lake Spa or explore the surrounding nature through a variety of lake activities – out on the waters of Lake Saimaa and amidst the pristine landscapes of Linnansaari National Park.

With heartfelt greetings from Järvisydän,

The Heiskanen Family
and the entire Järvisydän team
